Wadrift Dam Project

Plettenburg bay is facing water supply problems and is planning to build a holding dam at Wadrift which will be supplied by a series of boreholes.

Geomechanics was contracted to do an investigation of the proposed dam site and to conduct exploratory aquifer drilling to determine where along a waterline the boreholes should be situated.

The project required open hole percussion drilling of 9 holes. Some of these holes were through difficult formations which caused collapsing of the hole at around 85meters which then necessitated the installation of casing. The deepest hole was 227m.
