Geomechanics' staff member's quick thinking prevents serious injury at King Shaka International Airport

Dean MacDonald reacted quickly today at King Shaka Airport and potentially saved lives when a Taxi carrying around 13 people caught fire about 150m from where he was drilling.

The passengers told us that they felt trapped inside the vehicle because the driver was in a panic and could not open the locked sliding door. The flames were already coming from the engine and reaching as high as the front and side windows.

Dean, reacting very quickly, grapped the 9kg fire extinguisher from the P7000 as well as the one from his bakkie and ran over to the burning Taxi where he put out the flames. The fire trucks arrived around 15 minutes later…

The passengers were all very grateful for his help.

Well done Dean!!!
