Terra Monitoring | Excellence in Action

TERRA MONITORING: GEOTECHNICAL MONITORING - EXCELLENCE IN ACTION

In the demanding environments of mining and civil engineering, the accuracy of sub-surface data is the foundation of any project’s success. Terra Monitoring, specialists in geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation, provides the technical expertise and high-precision instrumentation required to transform subsurface data into actionable insights.

By integrating our experience with advanced technology, Terra Monitoring offers a comprehensive portfolio of services and equipment designed to suit your every geotechnical monitoring need.

Geotechnical Instrumentation

We specialise in the supply and installation of sensors that monitor the heartbeat of sub-surface conditions.

  • VIBRATING WIRE PIEZOMETERS (VWP’s): For quality monitoring of pore water pressure in dams and tailings storage facilities.
  • INCLINOMETERS & EXTENSOMETERS: Providing precise measurements of lateral and vertical ground movement to detect early signs of instability.
  • SHAPEARRAYS: An advancement of traditional inclinometers, ShapeArrays consist of a string of segments connected by flexible joints. These are installed into boreholes or attached to structures to provide automated, real-time 3D deformation data. ShapeArrays remain in the ground to provide continuous high-resolution spatial data without the need for manual probing.
  • TILTMETERS & CRACK GAUGES: Critical for structural health monitoring in buildings, bridges and tunnels.

Wireless Data Acquisition Systems

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the demand for near real-time monitoring, a service we are proud to offer. Equipment pieces are connected to remote data loggers that send through measurement readings remotely to a centralised control room and send through notifications to selected contacts directly. Thus, eliminating the need for manual reading to be taken.

  • ALERTS: Instant notifications via SMS or email can be configured should movements exceed pre-determined safety thresholds.
  • COMPATIBILITY: Our technicians are able to connect most measuring devices to the remote logging systems, allowing you a hands-on approach for mitigating risks.

Our collaboration with Geomech Africa and Geomechanics allows us to offer an integrated, turnkey service. For instance, on a single tailings project, the Group can provide sonic drilling, ideal for tailings soil conditions, S-CPTu testing, and various other in-situ services with the subsequent installation of world-leading monitoring instrumentation, all managed under one roof.
